Truth in Fiction

The Homeplace

In the 1800's kitchens were detached from the house.

This kept the heat separate from the main quarters during the summer months.  We were fortunate to visit  a working farm museum near Dover, Tennessee a couple of years ago. It was beneficial to my research for A Twist of Tobacco to see how the common people really lived before and during the Civil War.
